Made tall, not cropped from wide. You tell Implicit the screen, and every video is made at those proportions from the first scene — so it fills the wall instead of showing the middle third of something that was composed for a landscape frame.

The problem

Why cropping fails on a tall wall.

A wide clip is composed for a wide frame. Crop it to portrait and you throw away the sides, which is usually where the composition was. Stretch it instead and everything in it grows tall and thin.

On a forty-foot wall, both are obvious from the far side of the lobby. It is the thing that makes a wall look like it is playing somebody else's content, because it is.

What Implicit does

Proportions first, then the video.

The screen's proportions are set before anything is made, and every scene is made at them. Five standard shapes are ready today, portrait and landscape.

A tall frame is also composed differently: one thing filling the height — falling water, a tree, a figure, a column of light — rather than a wide scene squeezed to fit.

And it is a whole video, not a clip at a time. It plays as one continuous thing on the wall.
